I’m a freshmen going to try out for baseball when the season starts for my highschool. I havent even played for years but going to give it my all.
I was wondering what i could even do to get better and practice for the tryouts so i can definitely be on the team.. and not be a bench warmer.
I dont really have anyone to practice with so it has to be just me.
Any suggestion?

Question by Mel L: How do i get abs fast?
Ok so im 15, i play soccer and tennis in my school so i would say im in pretty good shape, im gonna start swimming for p.e. Soon maybe in like 2 months so i wanna get abs or at least the shape of them real soon and im not fat im skinny but not buff so i was just wondering what i would have to do and how many reps and stuff like that to get them thanks

Best answer:

Answer by Nylon A
Ok so your 15 right??
Sit-ups… start with situps (there are way more interesting exercises but start of with these because they are a good base to what will be quite a lot of exercises).
It is really important to learn proper technique and make sure you do it slowly! The slower you do it the more you gain from it!!
Try 30 situps and then a minutes rest, then 30 again…
Try doing that every second morning and so on…
Also try the bridge which is where you rest on your elbows in the pushup position and hold that position for as long as possible!
The real trick is repetitions!!
Try combinations of exercises and make sure you do some reseaerch! There are quite a lot of very painful ones!
Pain is glory so keep at it!!

Question by Luke: How do magnets work?
I’ve always been curious as to how magnets exactly worked. I know about the north and south poles, but I’d prefer it if you were to go into the smaller details that wouldn’t be covered with an intro to magnets.

Best answer:

Answer by Smash
Questions that often come up are, “How do magnets work?”, or, “Why is iron magnetic?”, or, “What makes a magnet?”, or, “What is the magnetic field made of?”.

Those are good questions, and deserve a good answer. However, did you know that there is a lot about magnets at the atomic level that isn’t known yet? Just like with most of the other basic forces we are familiar with, such as gravity, electricity, mechanics and heat, scientists start by trying to understand how they work, what they do, are there any formulas that can be made to describe (and thus predict) their behavior so we can begin to control them, and so on.

The work always starts by simple observation (that’s the fancy word for playing around with the stuff!). That’s why it’s so important to have some “hands-on” experience with magnets. Have you taken two magnets and tried to push like poles together? How far away do you start to feel the repulsion? How does the force vary with the distance between them? When the magnets are moved off-axis to each other (moving them to the side and not head on) what does it feel like? Could you describe it like trying to push two tennis balls together? When you flip one around, what changes? What about moving one around the other in a circle? Try these things! That’s how you learn! Only when you play with (observe) them will you begin to understand how they work. This is the stuff great scientific pioneers did, like Faraday, Lenz, Gilbert, Henry and Fleming.

What we can find out this way, is some of the basics of magnetism, like:

the north pole of the magnet points to the geomagnetic north pole (a south magnetic pole) located in Canada above the Arctic Circle.
north poles repel north poles
south poles repel south poles
north poles attract south poles
south poles attract north poles
the force of attraction or repulsion varies inversely with the distance squared
the strength of a magnet varies at different locations on the magnet
magnets are strongest at their poles
magnets strongly attract steel, iron, nickel, cobalt, gadolinium
magnets slightly attract liquid oxygen and other materials
magnets slightly repel water, carbon and boron

Question by flip4it: How can I break a self-defeating trend?
I know that I can get out of this rut I’ve created. But I seem to get ahead, then all of a sudden, I’m back behind the 8-ball. WTF? I’ve had others, such as family members, try to help me, but I keep doing the same things over. I’ve read books on the subject, which offer many great suggestions. So why can I not seem to apply myself? I hate this complacency. Help, anyone!
I’ve lost jobs without thinking I was doing anything wrong. I can’t seem to find a secure place to live. I hate mooching off of people, but can’t seem to get my life in order to where I am self-sufficient. I am an educated person, and don’t have self-esteem issues (as far as I know!). I used to have my own place, a nice car, a good job. Then, I seemed to have dropped the ball and became complacent somehow.

Best answer:

Answer by dirty turkies
it would help if the question wasn’t so vague.

i have no idea what trend you can’t break.

i would suggest coming at it from either a new angle or multiple angles at once.

its really all i can give you based on what you’ve given me.

what is the currect form to have?

is their any drill you can do to improve on it?
why do player balance themselves while shooting, after they kick a ball they seem to lift off of it, how, and why?

when i play beach soccer, i feel like i am able to strike the ball very hard and smoothly, but this is when im barefoot, when im playing on the field with cleats on i cant shoot that hard,

Best answer:

Answer by mawinwinfield
you must be behind the ball and not off to the side
also you must hit the ball with the top of your foot
my source is a video of a compilation of powerful shots
