Please read! I want to play some tennis but have a few problems. What should I do…?

Question by Me<3<3<3: Please read! I want to play some tennis but have a few problems. What should I do…?
So I want to play tennis in my free time and would love to take lessons. I already know the basics but I want to learn new stuff and I want to get better. Tennis is one of my favorite sports and I want to use my free time to play. There are a few problems though:
1. There are barely any tennis instructors around me (i think there are 4)
2. I can’t travel out too far for lessons.
3. The ones that are near me are so expensive ($ 300 a week at the cheapest. No thank you!)

There are tennis courts right next to my house that belong to my school so I can use those, but I have NO ONE to hit with. It also has no wall otherwise I would use that and not be asking this question.

Try finding a large empty wall with no window or anything, and make sure, on that wall, you know just about where the net height is. Just practice hitting against the wall. I do that all the time for practice.

Should I play tennis? EASY POINTS!?

Question by monomojo: Should I play tennis? EASY POINTS!?
I am an unathletic 13 year old female, and im wondering if i should start playing tennis. Okay so i hate any form of physical fitness, but ive decided that i have to start exercising more just to stay healthy [im not overweight or anything], so i realized that i just have tennis rackets and tennis balls lying around my garage, and i have a tennis court nearby my house so maybe i should learn. im really good at badminton which is sort of like tennis, but i guess its more recreational, but do you guys think this is good for a beginner? I wanted to play something that wouldn’t require too much physical ability. OH and i hate competetion, which is bad because theres competition in everything, but i think tennis would get me more adjusted to a more competitive mentality. So should I play? Thanks for your answers:)

Should I switch back to one handed backhand?

Question by : Should I switch back to one handed backhand?
I first learned to play tennis the classic way, with a one handed backhand. After a while of not playing, I returned to the game, but then developed tennis elbow. To ease the pressure on my arm I decided it was best to use two hands on my backhand, which was the major problem. Now my tennis elbow has disappeared, and I am now able to swing my one hander comfortably. On the other hand, my two hander is very consistent and easy to use for returning serves. Recently, my serve has become a definite weapon, so I was thinking of doing S&V, but would have a problem because two handers do now particularly suit the style. So I was wondering, should I switch back to a one-hander, or continue using two hands?

Not sure if this will help but…
I grew up playing a baseline singles game with a 2-handed back hand. My backhand is my favorite shot. It is a shot that I feel I should never miss. Due to injury and lose of mobility (bad knees), I had change my game to play more doubles. Therefore had to learn how to hit shots that where out of my comfort zone. Due to the change of contact points on some balls (balls that would bounce twice before I could hit them. I learned how to hit a one-handed back hand in order to hit those shots with topspin. It gave me more options when I didn’t have the time to set up for my 2 handed back hand. My contact point for my one handed back hand is about a foot farther in front of where my 2 handed back hand would be. I can use it as a weapon instead of popping it up for my opponents for an easy put away. So, my suggestion would be, keep them both. It gives you more options and variety. Why choose unless you are worried about your grip change when you come in to S&V. Usually you have a different grip when you hit a slice vs. top-spin.

Hope this helps???

Question by bob: Should I use my other hand for tennis?
I play badminton with my right hand (I am naturally right handed). I want to start playing tennis. Is there any advantage in learning with my left hand? Since badminton is soo different from tennis is there a risk of having bad form, using too much wrist ect…if i used my right arm for both sports?
I am not abidexterous

Best answer:

Answer by bro
Go for it.
Physical activities such as tennis often put people in a better mood.
Obviously being in a better mood can help your studies.

Not to mention the health benefits of being physically active.

Plus if you don’t do it, your going to be thinking about it anyway, which will affect your studies.

Should I play tennis or basketball? No experience?

Question by I: Should I play tennis or basketball? No experience?
I’m a girl and I’ve never played tennis or basketball before in my life. I want to start playing and I was wondering, which one would be better for me if I wanted to stay in shape? Which would be easier to learn?

I wanted to tryout for one of my high school teams next year. Which do you think would be easier to get into? If I practice over the summer do you think I’d have a shot?

I’m about 5’6 and weigh about 110.

PS: I’ve done sports before…just not tennis or basketball.
Oh, and I have not been active lately…Last time I did a sport was probally 6 months ago.
I’ve always loved shooting a basketball into a basketball hoop. It always made me happy me when it went in.

I also loved badmitton as a child. I would say I’m pretty good at it. I don’t know if it’s exactly the same thing as tennis though.
What season is each sport usually played?
Do you think doing both would work?

Should I try to join a sport my senior year? & other questions?

Question by missfabb: Should I try to join a sport my senior year? & other questions?
I’m 5’2 and 103 pounds, so I’m not fat or anything, but I’ve never been very athletic or active in extra curricular activities. I had a high SAT score, a 2010 on my first try, I’m in the top 20% of my class, and my gpa is currently 3.97. I feel proud of where I am academically, especially because I procrastinate a LOT and don’t even put 100% in (which I regret, but hey that’s not too shabby for someone who doesn’t try that hard).

ANYWAYS, the only clubs I’m in are French Club, French Honor Society, and National Honor Society. I’m thinking of learning to play Tennis this last month of summer and try out for the team next year, my senior year, so that it’ll look good on my college applications. But would it really be worth the trouble? I hear we apply for college in the fall, and Tennis season doesn’t start till like Spring I think. So by the time I fill out my apps, I won’t even be able to say I’ve played for a year, or that I’ve earned any awards.

I am currently trying to get a job somewhere nearby, will that be good enough for colleges to think I’m “well rounded”?

Best answer:

Answer by Tory Mae
If you think it’s “trouble” it’s not worth it. Don’t do it if you’re not interested, because sports are a huge commitment and they don’t mind cutting you from the team. At our school, sports training is 2-6 PM, and then on game days they stay even later.
And if you’re getting a job too you definitely won’t be able to balance the commitment. Besides, a job looks way better. It shows responsibility and academic behavior :)

I’m in a contest right now, and if you could vote for me really quick I would love you! You don’t have to sign up or anything, all you have to do is go to the link and under the picture click ‘love it (it’s in pink)’ I really appreciate it, thank you so much!! :) )

should i buy my kids table tennis and is hard to learn how to play?

Question by 890: should i buy my kids table tennis and is hard to learn how to play?
I wanted to buy a game where they are active and at home. Also because i am sick of them being on the computer or playing video games all day

Best answer:

Answer by Sam W
Get a air hockey table, they are much more fun, and they are about the same price,

As for being easy to learn, its just hitting a ball to the other side of the table,
