Which is a good book to teach a kid to play tennis?

Question by : Which is a good book to teach a kid to play tennis?
I know there are many but I want to hear someone advice on a good one. If is something you use and know it on first hand, much better. Thanks!!!

It seems I didn’t explain myself good enough so I want to add this comment. The summer before last one my daughter took some tennis classes during the summer (basic classes) and since then she had been asking me for more tennis classes (which I can not afford for now) so I am trying to find a way to get a book, or video and learn myself how to teach her tennis.

go on fuzzyyellowballs.com, they have many tennis instruction videos that you may find helpful. some of there videos you have to subscribe and pay for but if you search around on the website you will still find some good free vids. Also try youtube because most every tennis website with free videos will also post them on youtube. As for boks i don’t know of any. And you can also ask someone at your local tennis place if you have one, and they might even offer to coach your daughter for a good reasonable price.

hope this helps good luck

Get a proper coach, if you can afford one, or have your friend watch your strokes carefully. Better still, use a good camcorder and film a whole series of shots – the more the better – and look for your (human) errors from one successful shot to the next.
With some people consistency takes longer than with others; ask anyone that plays golf!

Please read! I want to play some tennis but have a few problems. What should I do…?

Question by Me<3<3<3: Please read! I want to play some tennis but have a few problems. What should I do…?
So I want to play tennis in my free time and would love to take lessons. I already know the basics but I want to learn new stuff and I want to get better. Tennis is one of my favorite sports and I want to use my free time to play. There are a few problems though:
1. There are barely any tennis instructors around me (i think there are 4)
2. I can’t travel out too far for lessons.
3. The ones that are near me are so expensive ($ 300 a week at the cheapest. No thank you!)

There are tennis courts right next to my house that belong to my school so I can use those, but I have NO ONE to hit with. It also has no wall otherwise I would use that and not be asking this question.

Answer by petRodentsPURPLE
Try finding a large empty wall with no window or anything, and make sure, on that wall, you know just about where the net height is. Just practice hitting against the wall. I do that all the time for practice.

Should I play tennis? EASY POINTS!?

Question by monomojo: Should I play tennis? EASY POINTS!?
I am an unathletic 13 year old female, and im wondering if i should start playing tennis. Okay so i hate any form of physical fitness, but ive decided that i have to start exercising more just to stay healthy [im not overweight or anything], so i realized that i just have tennis rackets and tennis balls lying around my garage, and i have a tennis court nearby my house so maybe i should learn. im really good at badminton which is sort of like tennis, but i guess its more recreational, but do you guys think this is good for a beginner? I wanted to play something that wouldn’t require too much physical ability. OH and i hate competetion, which is bad because theres competition in everything, but i think tennis would get me more adjusted to a more competitive mentality. So should I play? Thanks for your answers:)

what is the best tennis court to play on?

Question by I<3theclickfive: what is the best tennis court to play on?
i am a beginner and i really love tennis but i would like to know which court would be best to learn on. i dont want your answer to be based on the fact that i am a beginner but what type of court surface will enhance my playing skills more than other courts – even in the long term? i have learned on clay and hardcourt surfaces but my senses arent developed enough for me to tell a difference. anyway- thanks.

HARD COURT:

Most of the pro season is based around hard courts, so hard courts are what you need to be good at playing on, especially in the UK and USA.

Clay is generally played in Southern European countries and Grass is quite rare and generally played in northern Europe.

Indoor Hardcourts are fine aswell, but outdoor again, is the main court to play on.

There are only one or two carpet events, so don’t even go there!

HARD COURTS (preferably outdoor in USA and either in UK)

I need help getting back in shape to play tennis?

Question by Pretty_Girly101: I need help getting back in shape to play tennis?
I havent really done anything ‘tough’ since like september and im VERY out of shape. I was walking stairs that i used to run and i was getting out of breath and my legs were throbbing. I do yoga 2 times a week and i’ve been doing pilates.

I really want to go out for tennis and i know that i wont make junior varsity but its still worth getting out there and learning…ect. So what can i do to get in shape and practice for the upcoming tryouts in 3 weeks? Run…like how long and what type, should i do small runs or long ones-once i work up to them? how often, thanks in advance :)

I already have the healthy diet down-i want to be a nutritionist so i have known for a while and i know one personally, i also already drink like 2 liters of water a day, lots of tea and a sobe life water as a treat :D

So my roomate asks me, Wanna play tennis?

Question by : So my roomate asks me, Wanna play tennis?
(Go to youtube and watch the previes for these movies, will help you understand my question
No Strings Attatched.
Friends with Benefits)

Background story:

I’ve recently moved in with a friend of mine from college. We are both going to UCM and its cheaper living 20 minutes away and sharing a house than it is living in the dorms like we used to at our old college.

Recently, things have changed in our attitudes toward eachother. She’s getting more physical when she used to be just verbal. Its subtle, but noticeable. 2 nights a week we have a sit-down quality time and we watch movies, play dungeons and dragons online, or play dominoes vica versa.

Well last week we rented several movies from redbox.

No Strings Attatched
Friends with Benefits.

These arnt the movies i would have chosen but its what she chose and its needed to understand.

Well after watching no strings attatched we put in the other movie, when the movies were done we were talking about them, laughing for the most part about certian parts of the movies when out of nowhere she stole a quote from Friends With Benefits.

“Wanna play tennis?”. And she was completely serious. My heart was racing at a million miles an hour, i dont think i’ve ever felt my body on fire, my blood felt like lava.

I’m not uptight or anal about sex. Its just I’m a virgin and while my body is screaming for me to go for it, im having doubts. I dont want to lose the friendship we have over something that can be avoided. While the movie stars in the movie have a happy ending, i dont think it works that way in real life. I’m not scared of hurting her, I’m scared of getting attatched and then having to leave her, or her me. I’m scared of getting hurt. I’ve never had to go through something like this before and its really messing with my head.

What should i do?

Should i play tennis? Or just walk off the court and continue playing the field? Is this something i have to learn? The emotional trauma….or something i should just avoid?
Basically, In Friends With Benefits. Here is what is said.

Guy: I dont get why you have to be in a relationship to have sex
Girl: I know, it should be treated like a sport, like tennis.
Guy: *as girl walks away* Wanna play tennis?

My parents won’t let me play ice hockey – how can I convince them?

Question by James M: My parents won’t let me play ice hockey – how can I convince them?
I’m a keen young athlete, almost finished school and always participate in all the school sports I like (soccer, volleyball, athletics), others have said I’m a really talented sportsman.

Unfortunately my parents hate me doing any kind of physical activity when they claim I could be studying instead. I’m scoring an A/A+ average for all of my subjects and 96% on all tests and have school athletics 5 mornings a week, three afternoon sessions.

They seem to be picky, only letting me play tennis. I’ve managed to convince them to play soccer for a club for a season and was awarded most valuable player in many of my sports seasons including soccer, but my parents didn’t like the commitment so they pulled me off the team.

It’s been my lifelong dream to play ice hockey, and I’ve saved up more than enough funds to pay for everything (gear/kit + season club costs), I can get myself there and back without them being troubled.

Yet – they still say they don’t like ice hockey; they don’t want their son playing it.

Any ideas as to how to change their minds? I’m afraid I’ll miss my chance to learn and never play competitively… Should I rebel and sign up without my parents knowing, change their thoughts or wait until I’m old enough to just join up myself?

Thanks

Answer by Kessi Taylor
If you really want your mom to know that you love Ice hockey tell her how much, you like it. Tell her how you feel about it. Also show her that you wont get hurt. Surprise her and the gift is yours.
Soon shes not gonna be the boss of you.

So basically show her. :)

What sport can I play during the winter?

Question by Hyperion: What sport can I play during the winter?
What sports have training seasons that start during november/october. I am trying to become more active, I am currently a senior in high school. I have never really played sports before. I played tennis for 2 years, but I dont like it. I am a decent athelete. I just never really got into sports for various reasons. I am a quick learner. What sports would you recommened? Where would I sign up for something like it? I would prefer team sports, sports I could do with my friends. like soccer, football, basketball (Not so good at basketball, but I have never really learned how to play correctly, I am a decent shot, but not so good at dribbling?) I am willing to put in the work. Rather not do swimming, track, tennis (things like that)

Question by PingPongMaster: What places are there in Tampa Bay to play Ping Pong/ Table Tennis?
I have been playing ping-pong for 18 years and I am looking for places to play outside of the tournaments. I want to play for fun at say a bowling alley or arcade or restaurant or something. In NJ I played at a billiards place but down here in Tampa, florida I cannot find one place to play. Does anyone know? Also, if your interested in practicing or learning let me know also. Thanks!
