Do you think a 14 year old with little experience as a goalie could learn how to be a good goalie easily?

Question by Nick sixton: Do you think a 14 year old with little experience as a goalie could learn how to be a good goalie easily?
I am 14, I’ve never played actual ice hockey before, just street hockey, and I was usually goalie in that.

I used to be decent, when I was like, 11, and then I stopped playing, and then last summer I was playing street hockey and I wasn’t very good.

Do you think I could learn to be a good goalie?
And also, what could I do to practice?

Father of a 15 year old son wants to learn how to play soccer?

Question by Gabe: Father of a 15 year old son wants to learn how to play soccer?
i have a 15 year old son wants to be able to be a goalie on his high school team never played soccer before but likes it suggestions on how to train or what to do?

Answer by Tony
Make sure he gets in good shape if he’s not, learn how to properly kick a soccer ball, and do goalie drills with him. Some drills are…
1- throwing a tennis ball against a wall and catch it with only one hand.
2- do jumping techniques with him since goalies jump have to jump high
3- make sure he’s not afraid of the ball.

How do you hit with top spin and whats the best way to learn?

Question by Frankie: How do you hit with top spin and whats the best way to learn?
I’ve been playing tennis for about 7 months and I’ve always hit the ball flat and I want to learn how to put top spin on the ball.

Get your racquet with a Semi-Western Forehand Grip. (Here’s a good site to show you. http://www.waileatennis.com/grips.htm)

And then when you’re setting up to hit the ball, swing in a Diagonal Up so that the racquet ends up on your opposite shoulder. (Right handers should end on left shoulder.)

Suggest some places to learn tennis in Chennai, India.?

Question by alienne: Suggest some places to learn tennis in Chennai, India.?
Good tennis courts with trainers near K.K.Nagar? I know of MCC in the PSBB campus, but apparently they have a 7-day trainin with a fitness trainer who comes in once a week, and everything. This is the kind of place where they send you for tournaments. And that’s overload for me…

I go to work and have been wanting to learn tennis for a long time and would like to play 4 days a week or something.

Help, somebody?

Trying to learn tennis?

Question by Al: Trying to learn tennis?
I play a lot of sports, but not tennis. This summer I plan on learning tennis, and I have absolutely no clue what or how to do. Any advice about what tennis racket I should purchase, or what I would need to at least get the basics down?

Best answer:

Answer by Justin
What you need to do for playing tennis, first you need to figure out or learn the scoring system so you are familiar with it when you play. What you need next is a tennis racket. the kind of tennis racket that you need depends how much speed you can put in or how much power, and how much control. For starting off i would choose a decently good racket, like a wilson, but not an expensive one. you need a racket that has stability when you hit it. If you don’t have stability, then your shot will be off and you will be giving points to your opponent. Start off with some drills that common people use and start developing a playing style like a baseline player or net player or an aggressive player. When you learn to play, start off easy and get it in the box, develop further and eventually you will become a great tennis player and if you want, go in the big leagues.

What % is ability and what % is hard work, when a person is trying to learn a skill? (Any studies out there)?

Question by Enal: What % is ability and what % is hard work, when a person is trying to learn a skill? (Any studies out there)?
Obviously a blind person can not play tennis no matter how hard she works, but does a person need perfect vision to play? Does a person need a high degree of hand eye coordination? I never believed the old saying: “Genius is 95% sweat.” If genius was 95% sweat, everyone would be a genius! Are there any studies that I can read for my enjoyment? Thanks.

Best answer:

Answer by Loner [Born Genius]
I don’t believe genius is 95% sweat or hard work either. I have met people and some of my friends who never work and are so lazy they barely even try and yet they are still ahead of everyone else that works so hard but have no talent or abilities. I’d like to know to. I have lots of natural abilities and I progress so fast without even trying and when others work so hard I wonder why there still so left behind.

EDIT: It’s just something that feels natural so it’s easy for us. Me and my gifted friends agree that we don’t even need to put that much effort into it compared to most people.

To be honest I think that the saying “Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration” is just used to give people hope and motivation that they can do anything they set their minds to. There is no doubt though that there are people naturally better at doing things than others. Many are born with higher intelligences than the average person for example.
